Another New Year
Here we are again at the start of another new year, a day late and a dollar short with this post, but isn't that just in keeping with the epic clusterfuck that was 2017? Unlike 2016, which was a tough year globally but not personally, and unlike 2015, which was a tough year personally but not globally... 2017 managed to be terrible all the way around. It was a year of big changes and bigger disappointments, with just enough good mixed in to keep me putting one foot in front of the other.
...so I guess it makes sense that with everything else going on, this was my least productive writing year pretty much since I started writing again following a long hiatus in my mid-20s.
I wrote a total of 67,426 words which is way way down from last year. I added 7 new WIPs to the WIP Folder of Doom, and I'm starting off the year with 113 WIPs for a total of 365,913 unposted words. Which is... yikes. Just yikes.
I set some very reasonable goals at the beginning of the year, and didn't do so great meeting them:
----Be more present in fandom - I didn't do great with this. Real Life got in the way.
----Make this a year of very few fests - Success! I only did Draco-Tops this year, even though I was sorely tempted by several others. My success in resisting was more due to Real Life Nonsense than anything else, but I'll still take the victory.
----Write 300k in 2017 - AHAHAHAHAHAHA
----Get my WIPs down to double digits - I did the exact opposite of this. I have more WIPs than I started the year with.
----Comment Replies - I am deeply ashamed at how old some of my unreplied-to comments are. I'm still working on it.
This year I my goals are very similarsince I didn't complete a bunch of the things I need to accomplish
----This is going to be another Year of Very Few Fests, because it worked well last year. I'm not going to sign up for anything until I get my Fandom Trumps Hate fic finished and posted, but maybe we'll see where I'm at around the time holiday fest sign-ups happen. I like the idea of signing up to pinch hit, but we'll see where I'm at when I get there.
----I absolutely need to finish comment replies because at this point I have outstanding comments from over a two years ago, which is just shameful. I'm going to start putting in 30 minutes per (week)day until it's finished.
----I've signed up to GYWO again, this time aiming for a pledge 240 days in 2018 rather than a wordcount goal. I'm afraid that things will get busy and stressful again this year, so I figured this would be more doable than a wordcount goal if that happens.
----I've also set a wordcount goal for myself: 300k again, even though I was such fail at it last year.
----I want to get my WIPs finished because one hundred and thirteen is entirely unreasonable. Not changing this goal much from last year, as this is very doable as long as I can get myself to focus on it--I have a lot of short things started, and a lot of half-finished things that it won't take a huge amount of work to get finished--and I want to get at least seven of them done and posted this year. I'd love to get them down in the double-digits, but I think that might be a bit ambitious. As long as I get them back down to last year's level, I'll take that as a win.
----And in that vein, I want to continue with WIP Wednesday posts because it worked pretty well last year, as long as I was able to keep on with it. I was sort of hit-and-miss throughout the year, and I want to be better about it.
----And last but not least, I want to post more. Dreamwidth is quieter than Livejournal was, and I miss talking to y'all. So, I'm going to be the change I want to see and all that, and try to get back in the habit of posting more.

I tremble in fear at your goals - if I manage to get 100K out this year, it will be a miracle!
I have seen several people mention GYWO - I might just have to go and join that.

I highly highly recommend GYWO! If you're the sort of person who's motivated by tracking your progress via spreadsheets, they've got some really fantastic ones available to members, plus there's all sorts of neat challenges and discussions and things :D
