☆ What has FTS written recently! ☆
(I try to keep this to the most recent 6ish months)
i. in the armored van - 2k - A little expansion of the van scene.
ii. on the veranda - 3k - After their escape from Merrick's, Nicky and Booker talk.
iii. in the bathroom - 2k - After Nicky talks to Booker on the veranda, he talks to Joe in the bathroom.
The Everyday Uses of Ordinary Objects - 4k - This feeling overcomes them all on occasion, when the full weight of eternity suddenly turns crushing. Man was not meant to witness the churn of time firsthand. Sometimes it becomes too much, too vast, too heavy. Sometimes Nicky needs to disappear, just for a little while.

Hello and welcome! If you're just here for the fic, I'm glad you've stopped by. All my fic and writing-related posts will always be public.
However, if you add me and we've never talked, I'm going to assume you're just here for the fic and I probably won't friend you back. This journal is half-fandom and half-personal so I prefer to know at least a little bit about you before I invite you into my living room, so to speak. August Wrap-Up / September Goals

AUGUST
This is always pretty hectic, but I hit kind of a wall mid-month where I just did not have the time/energy for everything that needed to happen, and writing is one of the things I ended up dropping. I still managed some writing, but of the non-productive, not-on-the-thing-I'm-meant-to-be-working-on sort. Still, words are words. And I'm starting to feel kind of desperate to write again, which is a good sign. Hopefully will get some good wordcounts when I finally have time again!
August Wrap-Up : I finished the month with 12,433 words which is not the best, but is solidly okay all things considered. A total of 6 WIPs got words, with all words going into 6 Old Guard fics with only one being a new WIP. I did not make my goal of 25k.
SEPTEMBER
The first half of this month is going to be complete chaos. I know this. I have accepted it. Hoping for some words in the second half but we'll see...
September Wordcount Goal : 10k which is... reasonable? Maybe? I have no idea.
September Fics to Focus On
☆ redamancy #4 : and this one is STILL so so so so so close to done. It's particularly frustrating that I need just like 30 minutes of uninterrupted focus time that does not come at the tail end of my day when I'm mushy-brained with exhaustion, and in the entire month of August I did not get that. I'd love to get this one finished by the end of September. Estimated wordcount, 2k.
☆ the water's always greener : and second verse same as the first. One uninterrupted half-hour of writing time and I can get this one finished and posted. Estimated wordcount, 1k.
☆ soup au : and I'm leaving this on on the list. It still feels reasonable to get it done quick-ish and I'd love to have something a bit longer for this fandom to post. Estimated wordcount, 12k.
☆ food truck au : and I keep thinking of it constantly. I'm at the point where I need (and want!!) to do a full reread of what I've got so far before I jump back into writing, so maybe I'll do that the first half of the month and then maybe get some writing done on the second half? Estimated wordcount, 250k.
I am also thinking about whether I want to pick up horrorguard again or if I want to work on ghost!joe au, to hopefully have one or the other done around Halloween. Probably horrorguard? I don't feel super confident that this will actually get done in time for Halloween, given the way everything has been recently, but... idk.

Another tough week, and I am absolutely worn out. Very little free time, even less energy. I'm starting to feel a little bit desperate for writing time. If I had even just 30 minutes to sit down and focus entirely, I have a couple of fics I could finish off. Still taking a bit of a break from food truck au and I think it's doing us both some good to let it marinate on the back burner for a while.
The Old Guard
☆ soup au : 3,333 words which brings the total to 3,333 words and I kind of love it? It's a very silly idea inspired by a tumblr post (Joe posts a bunch of thirst trap pics to try to lure Nicky in, but gets no response. Then he posts a picture of some soup he made and suddenly Nicky is ALL up in his DMs) and I'm having a lot of fun with it so far. I'm just transitioning from the jotting-down-scene-bits-and-ideas phase to the actually-putting-this-shit-together phase so wordcount has slowed way down, and after almost 200k of Nicky-POV it's been a little tough transitioning to Joe-POV, but I think that's not necessarily a bad thing, to force myself to go there? Hopefully I'll be able to bring that back to food truck au since there's some similarities.
☆ misc : 1049(ish) words and it's a little Nicky & Nile thing that's almost finished but I'm not entirely sure what to do with it after. I could either post it on its own? Or I've been kicking around the idea of posting a fic that's just a bunch of Nile-POV ficlets that are her settling in with the team? It's not done, in any case, so I have some time to think it over.

This month was kind of up and down. The beginning went pretty well, the last couple of weeks were basically nonstop. I am very tired. Business as usual...
July Wrap-Up : I finished the month with 23,360 words which is up from last month, woo! A total of 5 WIPs got words, with all words going into 5 Old Guard fics with only one being a new WIP. I cleared my goal of 20k, yay!
AUGUST
August is always kind of chaotic, lots of visits, lots of birthdays, big transitions etc etc. But I feel like I've found my rhythm so I think that this will be okay!
July Wordcount Goal : 25k which might be a little bit of a stretch but I came very close last month so let's do it!
July Fics to Focus On
☆ redamancy #4 : and this one is so so so so so close to done, I literally just need like half an hour to focus on filling in two little connective bits and it'll be finished. As soon as I can find half an hour, I'm going to tackle it and hopefully get it posted by the end of the month! Estimated wordcount, 2k.
☆ the water's always greener : and this one is done, has been betaread, and I got some really valuable feedback on it. Again, I'm just waiting until I have like half an hour I can focus on it, and I'm optimistic about getting this one posted in the next couple of weeks. Estimated wordcount, 1k.
☆ soup au : and this one is new lol. Inspired by a tumblr post, I'm still in the jotting-down-bits early stage of a WIP, but I had five minutes yesterday to poke at organizing it and I think I've got the shape of it. Estimated wordcount, 12k.
☆ food truck au : and I'm dropping this one down the priority queue just a little. I'm taking a couple of weeks away from it and I think that some time apart will do us both good, and plan to get back to it later in the month. Chapter 14 was a battle to finish, and now Chapter 15 is giving me trouble, too. (Or maybe part of the reason is that I just haven't had more than a few minutes at a time to write recently?) Estimated wordcount, 250k.

It's been kind of a week, but we're getting through it. Today I got a call regarding my upcoming dentist appointment, and it turns out my dentist has retired, and like, I kind of feel like I just got broken up with? Now I have to figure out a new dentist which is kind of a bummer. I really liked my last one.

☆ food truck au : 4,950 words which brings the total to 187,710 words and Chapter 15 is coming along. It's now at 8k and I think it's going to be another long one, though thankfully it shouldn't come close to the 20k that Chapter 14 ended at. I've mostly been picking at a bit of Chapter 16 that I'm pretty excited to dig into, and idk why two chapters ahead is where my brain consistently wants to write with this thing, but here we are. Trying to ignore final wordcount/chapter count and accept that this thing will be what it will be.
☆ misc : 200(ish) words which brings the total to 848 words and this one is DONE! It was just a little idea my brain spit out a couple of weeks ago, I finished it off last week, it's been to and returned from beta and I'm thinking over revisions. Exciting to have something completed and maybe post it? Soon??

Oh man, things are still straight chaos here, but last week was SGDQ which meant that I lost Mr FTS while it was going on, which meant that I was able to spend multiple evenings writing which meant that I actually got writing done. (Writing gets done when I have time to write? Incredible! Who'd have imagined such a thing!?) This week I've been back to 5 minutes here, 10 minutes there, and while that still helps to chip away at the wordcount, actually having big blocks of time to focus on writing was a nice reminder that no, I'm not slow because I suddenly suck at writing, I'm slow because life is chaos and I have no focus time right now. Which I knew already, but there's sometimes a difference between knowing and knowing, you know?

How is there still more left to write. BUT!! I finally finally finished Chapter 14!! I can't believe it took two months. Because I'm afraid we might be approaching it. I already cut this one in half and now the half I'm working on is at 14k. I've really fallen off doing these posts recently, but writing has been hard, everything has been hard, and here we are. For a while I was getting about 40 min of uninterrupted writing time per day which was amazing, and then I stopped getting that so writing became pecking out a few words here and there in between doing other things which, surprise, isn't nearly as productive.

☆ food truck au : 2,641 words which brings the total to 171,633 words and there is no way this fucking thing won't be breaking 200k goddamnit. I'm still stuck on Chapter 14, trying to get all the other little subplots I've been neglecting in favor of all the smut rolling again, and then it turned out it was too much for one chapter so it got split in two, but with two I thought certain bits of it needed a bit more build-up so it got longer, and I don't even know what I'm doing anymore. (Me: this fic is too long. Also Me: Quynh and Nicky are going to go spend a thousand words and counting in Costco together.) I'm also in the loop of non-productivity, where I find feedback very motivating, except I haven't finished a chapter in so long that it's worn off from the last one, so I'm not writing much, so I don't have anything new to send to my beta, so I don't get any more feedback, which means no motivation, etc etc. Trying to push through it but life is hard, writing is hard, woe is me.
☆ misc : 598 words and these are mostly for the series of little extras I have that will be set post-food truck au + some other little snippets of scenes that don't work with food truck au. Like, a little bit of dialogue that doesn't fit at all but I had floating around my brain and so I jotted it down anyhow even though I know it won't go anywhere.
☆ werewolf au : 189 words which brings the total to 16,996 words and this was just writing down a little bit of worldbuilding so I wouldn't forget it. Uggggh this fic is going to be so fucking good when I get around to writing it.

May Wrap-Up : I finished the month with 21,837 words which wasn't what I was hoping for, but it is what it is. A total of 6 WIPs got words, with all words going into 6 Old Guard fics. I fell well shy of my goal of 30k, alas.

Another kind of rough week. My sweet 17-year-old baby of a cat was diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease last week and I'm really struggling with it. We're currently in that awful phase of waiting to see if we can get things under control with a prescription diet + meds and I'm not handling it very well. In better news, my sibling is currently visiting and will be here through the rest of the week and that's been really nice. Alas, between the two of these things I haven't had much time or energy for writing.

With five chapters still left to finish??? This is undoubtedly going to be the longest thing I've ever written and I'm not sure how to feel about that. Last chapter gave me a lot of trouble, and there's one particular conversation I wrote and rewrote and rewrote over and over before I think I've got it working, and hoping that my beta will confirm that it does (or will have some insight into why it's not!) and now after multiple chapters of smut, Chapter 14 is a bit of a quieter thing, jumping forward in time a little, and reeling back in some of the subplots I've left dangling for the past while.

I was on track to finish and then spent this last week mostly hung up on a like 500 word chunk of conversation I wrote and rewrote and rewrote again. A total of 5 WIPs got words, with all words going into 5 Old Guard fics. I fell just shy of my goal of 30k, alas.
MAY
Hoping to build a little on my momentum, or at least keep it steady. Real Life stuff gets a little bananas this time of year as I start adding things back onto my schedule. Yard work starts taking up some of my free time again, etc, etc.

I've gotten my regular writing time today and actually got some good words out of it, even though I spent the bulk of it rereading the previous chapter in food truck, trying to get back in the brainspace to write that fucking thing.

It's the sequel to The Everyday Uses of Ordinary Objects (the cockwarming one) and should only be about 4k total so it's almost halfway done.

Oh my god this fucking month. I expected that the second half of it would be busier, but I was unprepared for just how much busier it would be, and how draining and stressful. I am absolutely flattened right now. Emotionally, physically, mentally. I am so so so tired.
March Wrap-Up : I finished the month with 38,153 words which is incredible and also frustrating. Even though I knew that the last half of the month would have a big drop in wordcount, it was rougher than I expected. Losing momentum sucks, but still! 38k is awesome and I'm trying really hard to focus on that. A total of 5 WIPs got words, with all words going into 5 Old Guard fics. Not only did I meet my goal of 25k, I went well past.
APRIL
April--crossing my fingers and knocking on wood--should be a fairly quiet month. I'm pretty burned out from Life Stuff, but hopefully I should be settling back into my regular writing schedule and I guess we'll see what happens.
April Wordcount Goal : 30k and I'm bumping it up to where I've landed the past two months, and hoping that I'm not about to jinx myself by aiming higher.
April Fics to Focus On
☆ food truck au : and where last we left, I was optimistic that I was bumping the wordcount estimate for the very last time. And to that I say LOL. LMAO, even. Holy shit. If the chapters had stayed consistent, that would have been accurate. But then I got into the relationship part of the fic, and Chapter 8 ran way long, so I split it in half. And then Chapter 9 ran long again. And then Chapter 10 ran long, and now Chapter 11 is, you guessed it, running long as well. And taking into account how long these chapters are running I think I actually have about 50k to go on it. At least 50k. Oh my god what the fuck. Estimated wordcount, 165k.
☆ pwp : I haven't decided which of these will be finished but I need to finish something. I made Grace pick one for me but I'm struggling to get that one to come together so idk.
☆ redamancy part 4 : and this one I think I can get done, it only needs like another 500 words and it'll be done. I just want to get something finished and posted.

Oh my god this fucking month. I expected that the second half of it would be busier, but I was unprepared for just how much busier it would be, and how draining and stressful. I am absolutely flattened right now. Emotionally, physically, mentally. I am so so so tired.
March Wrap-Up : I finished the month with 38,153 words which is incredible and also frustrating.
