Snowflake Challenge - Day 9

Day 9: In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I’ve already done a post about goals for the upcoming year, so I took this day’s assignment as the opportunity to do something I’ve been meaning to do for a while. I went thought my Great Big Notebook of Fic Ideas and finally transcribed it into a googledoc. While I worked I took the opportunity to sort through ideas and WIPs and restructure the writing queue and figure out which stories I wanted to give priority to in the upcoming year.

I have 85 WIPs (down from 93 at the beginning of the year thanks to my reorganizing; a good number of my WIPs are just a collection of scene snippets, and a good number of them I was able to reshuffle and incorporate into other stories I’ve got planned. So, wordcount stayed the same, but the number of docs it’s spread over decreased.) This leaves me with:

--51 Harry Potter
--28 Avengers/Captain America
--4 Starfighter
--1 Check, Please!
--1 Gundam Wing

However, story ideas are… somewhat more alarming, even though I ditched probably two or three dozen ideas that just don’t do it for me anymore and I’m never going to write, and combined a whole bunch of others. I split them up by fandom, and I need to go back and add keywords to them for easier searching. Thought about making a spreadsheet to go along with it, but that, my friends, is something I just haven’t got it in me to do. Maybe at some point I’ll have the fortitude to come back to this, but for now the googledoc is good enough. I’ve got:

--104 Harry Potter
--21 Avengers/Captain America
--7 Starfighter
--6 Gundam Wing
--1 Check, Please!
--21 Miscellaneous AUs for which I haven’t picked a pairing or fandom

(Most of these ideas are ready and waiting to be written. Some of them, however, left me scratching my head. There’s one in particular for HP that just reads “gothic horror and fucking” and I honestly have no idea what that means, but I sort of want it?)

Anyhow. Sorting through this gave me the chance to work out what I’ve got and what I want to do next. So instead of posting goals, I’m going to post a very rough Writing Queue:

1. Remix – this has a deadline so it is Number One Highest Priority

2. Don’t think Twice series – 7 more installments of filthy, filthy smut, ~45k(?), currently at 3k

3. H/D Collab fail with [livejournal.com profile] catplusfox, so much awesome and I can’t wait for this to be finished! ~70k(?), currently at 18.5k

4. H/D fic – Postwar, Draco owns a shop and Harry keeps coming in. Very feelsy and quiet. ~20k, currently at 5k

5. H/D fic – 8th year forced proximity and bed-sharing, ~10k, currently at 4k

6. Stucky collab, no idea on wordcount because we haven’t worked out much detail about the plot yet. But it is me and [livejournal.com profile] eidheann_writes, so probably there will be dicks? Due near the end of summer, so plenty of time to figure it out.

7. Stucky fic! – Post-TWS, Bucky and Steve learn to be around each other again, ~40k, currently at 6.5k

8. Starfighter fic – Cain and Abel settle into life together back on Earth, ~50k, currently at 12k

9. Erised fail – Harry struggles to find his place in society postwar, takes some time away and starts his Auror training in another country. Turns out Draco had exactly the same idea. Very slow-burn romance and lots of Auror stuff. ~125k(???), currently at 26k

10a. Secrets: the Sequel – interlude – picks up right after All Our Secrets, bridges the time jump between that and the sequel. ~25k, currently at 4k

10b. Secrets: the Sequel – Maybe six months or so after Secrets and oh, the plans I’ve got for this… ~150k(??)

So, I am absolutely not going to finish all of those this year, I know that right now and I am not planning on trying. Because it's over half a million words and even if I weren't coming off a long bout of writer's block, there would still be no way. Plus, I don't plan on limiting myself exclusively to these. Numbers 1 and 2 are both hard-and-fast Must Finish ASAP, but once I get those done I'd like to try to get some shorter fics posted in between working on the longer ones, and also I plan on doing Erised again this year and the length of that one will be entirely dependent on who I get assigned and what they request. But I think this is a good place to start, as far as getting organized goes. I'm hopeful that by saying "Here is the list of things I am working on" that it'll give me enough direction that I'll be able to focus on those and won't go around starting fifty bazillion new WIPs. ::nodnod::

I love this post. The number of your WIPs makes me feel so good about my WIPs. :)
Yay, all the Stucky. :) :) :)

Well, I'm over the moon for all the H/D on your list. Mostly 10a and 10b because All Our Secrets is my favorite of all time. I gushed all over it on AO3 before I was on LJ. It's just damn fucking fantastic. But any kind of new FTS is good by me. Squee!!!

You are writing (or are considering writing) for CP? Would love to see that.

Best of luck on all your projects!

Same! I said to teasme that I wasn't going to write for it. And since then I have written four fics (three JackBitty, and one Shitty's POV on Holster/Ransom (which I also swore I wasn't going to write, then promptly did so)). So much love for CP and the characters.

And yes I am. I am generally in srs for much of the day (EST time) while at work, and in and out evenings and weekends depending on the day and what I'm up to. Also, hosting a WW Fri-Mon this week if you didn't see. The first checkin should go up this afternoon. Come make all the words!

Yay WIPS! These all look so awesome! And so funny about your Auror Training fic in another country, because I've had a similiar-ish plot bunny for years (it's one of two verses I always used to play around with in my head) though I think they'd be wildly different. :D

But holy cow, that is a lot of fic ideas!

Well, mine's *sort* of similar in that Draco ends up going to America for Auror Training. But it's different in that he and his fellow trainees/friends convince him to take part in this blind trial Auror exchange training program thing, that of course out of all the places ends up sending them to London. So the main story is in London, but I'm thinking parts of it will be in America. I'm thinking Seattle, but I'm not dead set on it yet.

LOL! I'm probably going to bug you about the plotting of this one, maybe this year...there are a few kinks to iron out, I think, but you'll be the first to know. :)

That is a Very Impressive List of things to do. I find it's really helpful to get organized like this. It's very satisfying crossing things off the list. :) Best of luck with all of it!

Wow. I'm a bit speechless. You're so ORGANIZED.

Looking forward to all the HP.

Yay, fantastic, what a great first step you took to accomplishing some yummy writing in 2016. Is it really 2016? God.

You know I had no IDEA someone could have so many WIPs at once! I would of course like to read all the H/D but if you're asking which ones appeal most I love the quiet little short bookshop idea and what I would really really love is if you took the mammoth sequel to Secrets and did what you did that unforgettable January, posted a bit a day over the month.

Because it's January, it's been raining for 84 consecutive days straight here and it was raining and blowing so hard last night it felt like the house was going through a car wash and there is NO LOVELY NEW FIC to look forward to each day. It would make things so much better if there was next year, that was such a brilliant idea of yours - or hey, if you want to post a scene/chapter of something shorter/more finished all through next Feb, or even March (I've given up on the belief I will ever see the sun, moon or stars again, or that spring and green will ever return) it would be immensely cheering. Just a thought if you wanted to get into the posting mood :-D.

This is a might delicious list of WIPs. I wish there was a way I could give you time and money (maybe inspiration? Anything you need really! WINE??) so you could just sit, relax and write. :D
