September Wrap-Up / October Goals

2017 Total Wordcount Goal : 55,515 / 300,000 and hoo boy was September ever in keeping with the rest of this fucking year. We drove two states away for Mr FTS to do job interviews, drove back home to start organizing things for the move, drove up again to look for a new place to live, drove back to finish organizing the move, and then did the move itself last week and y'all. I am exhausted.

September
Mixed in with all that chaos was me being a complete dummy when playing with my friend's dog. He loves to play tug and stupid me had my thumb hooked through his toy, which worked out great until he threw his entire body weight sideways, badly straining the tendon in my thumb. That was in the beginning of September and I'm doing a little better, but still having to avoid a lot of things so as not to aggravate it. Unfortunately, typing hurts, but I've at least progressed to being able to type a few lines at a time with long breaks in between. Still, that's not exactly conducive to writing, as is reflected in my wordcount. Sigh

September Wrap-Up : I finished the month with a paltry 721 words and I've entirely given up on being able to meet my goal for the year.

October
Finally, FINALLY, things are calm. I've got the house about 90% unpacked and there are no big events looming in the immediate future. I almost don't know what to do with myself.

October Wordcount Goal : 4k I think is a reasonable goal for the 2-ish weeks left in the month. I can't write on a computer, but I've injured my non-dominant hand so I'm going to attempt writing longhand until I can type more than 50-ish words at a time. Googledocs has a voice-to-text feature which, while it certainly isn't perfect, will (I'm hoping) give me a chunk of text that I'm pretty sure I can get the formatting/punctuation/etc corrected with one-handed typing.

October Fics to Focus On
pwp take 2 : Currently 4285 words. I am so close to being done with this thing. I'm not sure whether I'll be able to get it done anytime soon though, even with the voice-to-text option to spare me typing. It requires me to speak loudly and enunciate clearly, and voices carry shockingly well in my apartment and my landlord lives right above me. Not sure I should be narrating Harry and Draco doing it in the butt, given the situation. Estimated wordcount, 5k

Fandom Trumps Hate : Currently 0 words because I had a lightning bolt of inspiration on it recently (woo, long interstate drives are good for something!) and I'm excited. I have lots of notes, and tomorrow I'm going to plot the whole thing out on index cards and maybe start writing on it. It'll be slow going since I'm writing longhand, but I'm feeling pretty good about it. Estimated wordcount, 45k.

Additional Goals
...survive? Beyond that, I've got nothing.

Man, you've had a crazy few months! I think surviving is a good goal. I couldn't imagine not being able to type. That kind of frustration might be my end, lol.

Look, you moved and survived the whole ordeal with your stained thump. Well done.

And you're writing. Longhand or with voice recorder. All written words are great. :)) Congrats.

Oh wow, you're all moved! Congrats on that being OVER! Just omg! I'm really happy for you that you're there and settling in and that major stress is not somewhere in your near future anymore but behind you. I hope your thumb heals faster! Gah! <3

I know I'm coming in late on this, but a spica splint saved me when I hurt my thumb (nursemaids/gamekeepers thumb). Best wishes for a fast recovery!

I have (sadly) aggravated mine a few times since my initial injury -- the spica is just supportive, similar to the metal splint, but much more daily-life friendly. Glad to hear you're coming well and doing better!
