Writing for me?

I've totally stolen this idea from Birds. I've been adding to this for a while, and will probably keep adding to it at random as I think of new things, but yeah, I've been doing a lot of fests and stuff, and this seems like a helpful thing to have around because whenever I sign up for stuff I just sort of flail and list a random subset of these and, yeah, having a complete list seems like a good thing.



Dislikes:

I do not want anything regarding pregnancy or babies, including but not limited to: pregnant characters, mentions of characters having been pregnant in the past, abortion, miscarriage, childbirth, stillborn babies, mentions of producing heirs, mentions of continuing the family line, parenthood, surrogacy, infertility, adoption, and so on. Even very small mentions of any of these, such as when it's a joke and not referring to actual babies/pregnancy things (e.g. - a character eats a lot and then says they have a "food baby"). Please don't include any of this, even as a minor detail.


(The rest of these are really more preferences rather than hard limits. I’ve read and enjoyed exceptions to all of these, but I’m going to be a bit pickier about the particulars of how it’s done.)


Food in the bedroom. This includes both chocolate sauce/whipped cream/whatever being used all sexy-like, and also any food substance being used as lube in a pinch. It doesn’t bother me, but I’m far more likely to laugh about it than find it sexy.

Imbalance in the relationship – I like Harry and Draco to be equals or where their inequalities balance each other out (eg: Harry being more magically powerful than Draco but Draco having better control over his magic than Harry.) I don’t usually like when one of them is clearly stronger or more powerful or more dominant or more awesome than the other. Of course sometimes this is necessary plotwise (as with hurt/comfort fics, and I’m totally okay with it there) but I'm still very picky about how it's done, especially when the power imbalance comes from their relationship to each other (e.g.: Healer/patient.)

Infidelity between Harry and Draco, and to a lesser extent, infidelity between one of them and another character to be together.

Ron and Hermione being anything less than 110% supportive and loving towards Harry regarding his sexuality.

Loads of fluff. I really like fluffy fics if they’re short, but if you’re writing something long then I prefer at least a little bit of conflict, angst, and/or plot in with the fluff.

Song-fics, I'm just not that into them.

I'm very very picky about BDSM. I like it if there's a lot of praise involved. Overstimulation is great. I dislike when they use "Sir" or "Master" to address their partner. I like it when they maintain their usual relationship dynamic even when they're doing a scene.

Sexual humiliation, and the language that goes along with that: “slut” or “whore” or the like. If used not in a way that's meant to be humiliating or an insult, I’m okay with it, though. (One of them being described as a “slutty drunk” for example)





Pairings:

Most of the rest of it is geared mostly toward Harry/Draco, because that’s most of what I read and pretty much all I’ll write. But I do love other pairings!

Technical stuff:

POV – I will happily read first and third person POV. I love second person POV when it’s done well, though I’m a bit pickier about it.

Tense – All the tenses! I love past and present tense equally.

Non-linear timelines – Love ‘em, but I prefer that they be predictable in their non-linear-ness, or that it be easy to place when the scene I’m reading comes from. Clear as mud, right? Basically, I don’t like to be confused, unless that confusion is part of the plot.

Alliteration is always appreciated

Allusions = love, be they to literature or fic

Unreliable narrators – seriously, a well-written unreliable narrator makes me go ALSDHFLAHDLFHLSDHFYESPLEASEMOREOFTHIS

Wordplay. Puns and innuendo especially are win.

Somewhat-unredeemed Draco. Even if he’s atoned for his past, I love when he’s still got a sort of viciousness in him that he’s willing to bring out in situations he feels call for it/situations he feels he can get away with it. Bonus points if Harry finds that edge of viciousness helplessly arousing.
