(I try to keep this to the most recent 6ish months)
i. in the armored van - 2k - A little expansion of the van scene.
ii. on the veranda - 3k - After their escape from Merrick's, Nicky and Booker talk.
iii. in the bathroom - 2k - After Nicky talks to Booker on the veranda, he talks to Joe in the bathroom.
The Everyday Uses of Ordinary Objects - 4k - This feeling overcomes them all on occasion, when the full weight of eternity suddenly turns crushing. Man was not meant to witness the churn of time firsthand. Sometimes it becomes too much, too vast, too heavy. Sometimes Nicky needs to disappear, just for a little while.

Hello and welcome! If you're just here for the fic, I'm glad you've stopped by. All my fic and writing-related posts will always be public.
However, if you add me and we've never talked, I'm going to assume you're just here for the fic and I probably won't friend you back. This journal is half-fandom and half-personal so I prefer to know at least a little bit about you before I invite you into my living room, so to speak. November Wrap-Up / December Goals

2025 Total Writing Days : 100 / 365
NOVEMBER
I was expecting October to be the rough month and then November was supposed to be an easy glide to the end of the year, and somehow. SOMEHOW. That was not the case. Mostly due to being sick four times in four weeks, most recently with influenza A. I have not had the flu since 2017 and it was every bit as miserable as I remembered it being. I feel like I am only just beginning to crawl out from the crushing exhaustion that comes along with it. Ugh. Get your flu shots, y'all.
November Wrap-Up : I finished the month with 9,835 words which is fantastic considering everything else that's been going on. A total of 7 WIPs got words, with all words going into 7 Old Guard fics. I did not meet my goal of 20k.
DECEMBER
My biggest goal is just to get back into a writing routine again. I was doing really good at being consistent, and then last month I pretty much fell apart. I would love to get something small finished and posted, but I think that I need to just focus on the longer ones this month instead of getting sidetracked.
December Wordcount Goal : 15k and I still feel like this is going to be a little bit of a stretch, considering all the usual holiday madness that comes along with the month of December. But let's see how it goes! This will leave me a little bit short of my updated wordcount goal for the year, but I already met my original goal of 50k, so I'm all right with it.
December Fics to Focus On
☆ food truck au : and I know I'm not going to finish it this month, but I'd like to get through the next chapter at least, ideally the next two chapters. The next one ramps up the pining, the one after that has the confession of feels and the actual getting together, and that one's already mostly-written so should go fast if I can get through the next one. There's one conversation in particular that's holding me up. Estimated wordcount, 70k.
☆ horrorguard : Aiming to get this on finished and posted in early January, which is comfortably ahead of when the collection closes in February. I've done some work on this one, wordcount got bumped up just a smidge, but thankfully I have the whole story sketched out by now and it didn't spiral. I've got bits and pieces written from beginning to end, and now it's just a matter of filling in the gaps. Estimated wordcount, 15k.

Nov. 12th, 2025 10:10 amA more productive week wordcount-wise, even if it doesn't feel like it. Sick again with my second cold in three weeks and life continues to be relentless. I am so tired and am once again doing that thing where I can't focus so I end up throwing words at a bunch of different things and make real progress on none of them.
New words this week : 4051 words and I'm honestly a little surprised that it's this high.

☆ food truck au : 624 words which brings the total to 40,222 words and still trying to make progress on it so I don't lose all my momentum. I've done a little reorganizing of the chapters and I think I might be able to save some wordcount. Still dismayed about how long this one's turning out to be.
☆ horrorguard : 1570 words which brings the total to 3771 words and I'm having a hard time getting traction on it, even though this is the thing I should be focusing on. I have some good scenes down, though, I just need to get the wheel spinning.
☆ enemies with benefits au : 421 words which brings the total to 1145 words and I think I have a beginning on it which is exciting, just put down some scene notes. This one's going to be so fun when I finally get around to it!
☆ early days pwp : 850 words which brings the total to 1622 words and have closed this one and sent it back to the WIP folder, I thought it would be quick to write and it is not. I'll pick it up again maybe after horrorguard is finished because I do still think it will be short and it'll be nice to have something to post.
☆ werewolf au : 564 words which brings the total to 11,658 words and this is where my heart is right now. Desperately want to write on this one, but alas. I'm really trying not to do that thing I do where I start a zillion different long fics and then don't end up finishing any of them. So, horroguard, then food truck au, and then this one will be the ones to focus on.

My biggest goal is to get my submission for horrorguard started, if not finished, and to make more progress on my stupid runaway fic, which did not get finished last month.
November Wordcount Goal : 20k and I feel good about that since I've been pretty consistently at 20k over the last couple of months.

☆ food truck au : because holy shit I need it out of my fucking life right now. I don't even know what I'm doing with it anymore since the idea still doesn't feel like a novel-length idea to me and yet here we are. Estimated wordcount, 70k.
☆ horrorguard : The collection is open until mid-February but I'd like to get it finished and submitted earlier than that. This is an idea that I think should stay short, thank god. Estimated wordcount, 12k.

I don't even know. Anyhow. Chapter 4 went to and came back from beta, Chapter 5 is not that far along because I keep adding words to the later chapters instead.

Oct. 22nd, 2025 10:05 pmWhat a fucking week. Doctor visits, houseguests, they unexpectedly tore up my ENTIRE fucking street so coming and going from my house has been a nightmare, the fucking raccoon that's been terrorizing my back yard has learned to open the locking trash can lid so this morning i went out to garbage scattered all over the place. I am exhausted. By the back door we keep a small table with a basket on top where all the warm hand-knitted outdoor winter weather things live during the cold season, and the sofa is right next to it. Tonight my mother-in-law knocked an entire glass of chocolate milk off the arm of the sofa and directly into the basket. I am livid. I could cry. I can't even be properly mad at her because it was an accident and she feels bad enough about it already. Soaked everything in cold water and tomorrow I get to see if the stains come out because it's late and I'm so tired and I should do it tonight but I just cannot handle it. Basically just killing time right now until my phone charges and then heading straight to bed.

Oct. 14th, 2025 10:30 pmThis week has been a little easier, so that's a nice break between the nonsense. I have some medical stuff to take care of this week which I am very anxious about, Mr FTS has some pretty intense work stuff coming up, and then my brother and MIL will be visiting one after the other. So I honestly don't know how writing time is going to go for the rest of the month. There are at least a few days where I should have a little more time than I usually get, since I'll have a few evenings to myself, but overall I'm anticipating having less. Definitely not going to get anything finished and posted this month, alas. Even if I could potentially rush to finish something small, my focus has actually been pretty tightly centered on food truck au so I'm loath to derail that while I'm making such good progress on it.
New words this week : 6712 words which is right on target, AGAIN. Every week when I see my total land right around 6-7k I am filled with joy. I still can't believe how consistent I'm managing to be!!

☆ food truck au : 5789 words which brings the total to 34,214 words and I've had to accept a couple of different truths about this one. A) I am absolutely definitely going to blow past my last estimate of 35k, and probably also my newer estimate of 40k. At this point I'm still hopeful about keeping it under 50k but at this rate who the fuck knows. This is due in large part to, B) it's going to be way way smuttier than I anticipated. Third chapter is off to beta and it cranked the UST way up, so that's going to take some words to resolve later in the fic. Anyhow, fourth chapter is coming together quicker than I anticipated so that's nice.
☆ werewolf au : 326 words which brings the total to 10,841 words and it was just throwing down some notes about a little scene fragment so I wouldn't forget it. I've officially back-burnered this one, yay. We'll see if that holds next week.

Car issues continue, I've been just sick enough to be annoyed by it but not sick enough to justify any kind of rest, and I've had about zero downtime. I did get the Halloween stuff out and decorated, and my daily mental health walk for my stupid mental health now comes with crunchy leaves, so that's nice. Trying to focus on the positives here.
New words this week : 6494 words which is right back on target and I remain delighted that my wordcount has stayed so consistent overall. Unfortunately it was one of those weeks where I couldn't find my focus and ended up throwing words at a bunch of different stuff with no significant progress made on any of them.

Chapter two came back from beta which was helpful as always, so I don't know why this one is being so stubborn. I'm trying really hard to get it finished by this weekend, so we'll see. I'm also pretty sure the finished wordcount is going to be closer to 40k and I'm having something of a crisis over it. This was supposed to be a stupid silly 5k oneshot, and instead it's practically a novel but I'm still not sure that the idea/plot really justifies a novel? I don't know. I guess we'll find out together if it flops when I finally post it.
☆ werewolf au : 1872 words which brings the total to 10,599 words and we're into five digits!! I am still obsessed with this one.
☆ ordinary objects : 531 words which brings the total to 4316 words and I'm just keeping the cockwarming thing and its sequels in the same doc for convenience so it's all getting counted together even though the first part is done and posted. It's going to be a trilogy now, but all the parts should be short. So, probably around 15-20k total for the three of them. Still hoping to get the second part finished and posted by the end of the month.
☆ old kingdom au : 463 words which brings the total to 15,689 words and I'm still pretty obsessed with this one as well, even though it's a little farther down the writing queue. Currently poking at some ideas for the sequel, because of course it's going to have a sequel.
☆ canon divergent identity porn au : 262 words which brings the total to 4262 words and I'd only opened the doc in the first place to jot down a potential title for it, and then read over it and added some more words. It's basically if Joe and Nicky had parted ways post-Crusades and then ended up meeting each other later without realizing who they really were. It's going to be a lot of fun when I finally get around to it.
☆ ghost!joe au : 127 words which brings the total to 12,197 words and the same thing happened with this one, opened it up to jot down a potential title and ended up throwing some words at it. I'm thinking of trying to wrap this one up maybe while working on the werewolf one? It's about half done and because it's a retelling of the first movie the plot doesn't really have much space to spiral so I think I can get it done in about 20-25k.

My biggest goal is to get this silly runaway fic finished and posted, just carrying that one over from last month and hopefully it happens. Then dig in and get a good start on the werewolf thing, which I'm like 80% sure will be my next long fic to focus on.
October Wordcount Goal : 15k and I'm tempted to make it a little higher, but am resisting. The last week of October will once again feature houseguests and I never get much writing time done with extra people around.

Where on earth did this fucking month even go? I swear it was just August, and yet here we are.
September Wrap-Up : I finished the month with 20,874 words which is awesome. A total of 3 WIPs & 1 new work got words, with all words going into 4 Old Guard fics. One fic was finished and posted! I more than met my goal of 15k (yay!)
OCTOBER
My biggest goal is to get this silly runaway fic finished and posted, just carrying that one over from last month and hopefully it happens. Then dig in and get a good start on the werewolf thing, which I'm like 80% sure will be my next long fic to focus on.
October Wordcount Goal : 15k and I'm tempted to make it a little higher, but am resisting. The last week of October will once again feature houseguests and I never get much writing time done with extra people around.

Sep. 17th, 2025 12:53 pmFinally--FINALLY!!--back to our usual routine and it's been glorious. Life stuff does unfortunately continue. My car died again so I'll need to for sure deal with that before Mr FTS goes on a work trip soon, and I did have a cold last week, and then I got my Covid shot this week which always knocks me on my butt for a couple of days afterward. But there's been words! Actually, quite a lot of words!!

Sep. 10th, 2025 01:03 pmInto week #4 of disruptions and horror of horrors, I woke up today with an irritated and gunky throat. Pray with me it's not covid because the last time Mr FTS went into the office (he's work from home like 95% of the time) he brought home covid and because life is unfair he always has a day or two of mild cold symptoms and bounces right back and I spend a week feeling like I got hit by a bus. I have so much stuff to do this weekend I can't afford to be sick right now.
New words this week : 5237 words which is a little behind where I wanted to be but yesterday's wordcount was 82 so accounting for that I'm still being pretty consistent on the days I do get words done.

Trying to get back to my usual routines after August is over. Whew, a long weekend and a quiet week, I thought to myself. Surprise! On Friday the window people we've been trying to get on the schedule with all freaking summer called and were like, we're going to be there next week, that works for you right? And of course we said yes because my windows are very old and desperately need to be replaced, but, le sigh. It's more routine disruption and stress and shuffling about of furniture each evening and I am very tired. It'll be worth it when I'm not trying to stuff blankets around the sills this winter to keep out the drafty cold air, and we had a couple that didn't latch properly anymore which didn't make me feel particularly safe, but seriously. The timing.

Whew, what a month! Multiple rounds of visitors, birthdays, my and Mr FTS's anniversary, and then the relentless life stuff continues. I did all right for the first half of the month, and as predicted got basically nothing done for the second half. I had wanted to try to post a finished fic every month through the end of the year and that did not happen. Alas, the fic I thought would be 5k has run away from me, and that plus the end of the month being bonkers meant that it just didn't come together in time.
August Wrap-Up : I finished the month with 13,609 words which is remarkably consistent of me from the month before. A total of 2 WIPs & 2 new works got words, with all words going into 4 Old Guard fics. I did meet my goal of 10k (yay!)

My parents came for a visit, then my in-laws (who are departing this afternoon, so we're going to be getting back to our regular routine soon) and it's been birthdays and social engagements and trying to get the house ready and then absolutely no time for myself in the past eleven days. I did manage to keep the momentum going in the few days before it all started, and I threw down some words a couple of days ago because I had some ideas I was afraid of forgetting, but beyond that I feel like I haven't even had space to breathe.
New words this week : 648 words (plus 3012 from the week before).

Aug. 13th, 2025 12:39 pmA good amount of words this week, and mostly above all else I am pleased with how consistently I've been writing. Even though it still feels like I'm not getting much writing time and it's frustrating that it's taking me this long to get anything finished and posted, and what I do get is broken up in small bits throughout the day, the words are continuing to add up so I really can't complain too much. Especially since this is the most I've been writing in literally years.
Very close to hitting my August goal already, which I'm grateful to have done. My parents are coming up for a visit this weekend and will stay for a week, then my spouse's family will be visiting at the end of the month, so I don't anticipate having nearly as much time to write then.

Aug. 6th, 2025 12:55 pmA pretty successful week, wordcount-wise! Life is still pretty busy and hectic so while the words are flowing, writing time is still in frustratingly short short supply. I've been trying to write at least a little bit every single day, but I still ended up with a couple of zero days this week because sometimes the only available time I have comes at the very end of the day when my brain feels like a boiled potato. Telling myself that all words are good words, and every little bit gets me that much closer to finished!
New words this week : 6935 words which is awesome! About half this wordcount came from a single day, which is even more awesome. It's the best feeling when a new idea just clicks, and the words fly out onto the page.

August Wordcount Goal : 10k and while I was tempted to make it higher, I think this is probably more realistic. August is a pretty busy month, I have family visiting for a lot of it, I'm not sure how my writing time is going to shake out.

August Wordcount Goal : 10k and while I was tempted to make it higher, I think this is probably more realistic. August is a pretty busy month, I have family visiting for a lot of it, I'm not sure how my writing time is going to shake out.
August Fics to Focus On
☆ food truck au : because it's so close to done already. Inspiration hit like a ton of bricks with this one and it's practically writing itself. Writing has not been this effortless or this fun in absolutely ages, and I'd forgotten how much I love it. Estimated wordcount, 10k.
☆ Old Kingdom au : But probably not until the end of the month. I'm hoping a short break from this will be good for me. Food truck au is basically the polar opposite of this one and I think that shifting gears completely, plus the momentum of (hopefully!!) getting something done and posted will carry me through the worst of the struggle with this one. I love the idea. I have such a vivid image in my mind of what I want to happen and how, and the words just won't come. Estimated wordcount, 40k
WIP Wednesday
Jul. 30th, 2025 12:58 pmKeeping up with this for a second week in a row (and actually posting on a Wednesday this time! I realized belatedly that I did the last one on a Tuesday, which is actually a pretty good summary of my life right now: trying my best, struggling more than a little)
New words this week : 3659 words which is a little lower than last week, but I'm all right with it. Weekend before last I had two unexpected chunks of free time that went entirely to writing and I didn't have that this week.
WIPs worked on this week : 3, with one new WIP
The Old Guard
☆ Old Kingdom AU : 2533 words which brings the total to 13936 words and this is still an uphill slog. Where last we left it, I had figured out the tone issue, but then I came to the realization that I think it wants to be dual-POV, which would be fine except one of them doesn't show up until probably 20k into the fic. (Conservatively 20k, I tend to run long and it could very well be more.) So then I thought alternating a flashback in there from the other POV? But then that wasn't really coming together either, and I'm really struggling to not info-dump a whole bunch at the beginning and just ugh. I have a such a clear vision in my head of what I want it to be and I just can't find the words to get it on the page.
☆ Redamancy : 661 words which brings the total to 5552 words. Most of them went into one fic, a few went into another. Debating posting some of them out of order, because the next one in the series is the one I'm feeling least inspired about and I think it's holding me up on finishing the rest. Idk, I'm still having a lot of complicated feelings about the sequel (I enjoyed it a lot, but 'I enjoyed this movie' and 'This was a good movie' are two VERY different statements.) so I think the main issue is that I'm just not feeling canon compliant stuff right now.

This is an entirely silly little idea that popped into my head as I was driving yesterday and passed a halal food truck, and thought that food truck owner!Joe and office worker!Nicky would make a nice meet-cute. Threw some words at it last night and it's actually going to be more of a meet-ugly with some bonus identity porn thrown in. It'll be short and I'm hopeful I can get it done in the next couple of days. I'm already up to 1.2k on it and I don't think it'll be more than 5ish. I think I needed a break from my bigger project so I'm hoping this will be something of a palate cleanser and I can come back fresh.
