December Goals

I think this is a thing I'm going to start doing, a short post at the beginning of each month to set some fic and wordcount goals, and then another at the end to see how I did. I also want to start doing weekly posts about what I'm working on, the idea for which I'm shamelessly stealing from another author whom I admire very much. They've been doing these weekly posts for a few months, and I love seeing what I've got to look forward to reading, and seeing the wordcount tick steadily upward is exciting even when nothing's being posted yet. So I thought that might be a fun thing to start doing. Plus, posting means accountability and hopefully that'll help to keep me focused enough to get something done since I can't manage to finish anything without a deadline to keep me on track.
December wordcount goal: 2.5k
I'm aiming very low for this month because I don't tend to do much writing at all between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve. What with all of the holiday bustle, and having lots of things to read from holiday fests, and also being a little burnt out from pushing hard on Erised, I don't think I'm going to be doing too much creating this month, if the previous few years are anything to go by.
December Fics to Focus On:
I honestly have no idea what to work on next, so I ended up pitching a whole bunch of novel-length ideas at
catplusfox and told her to tell me what to write, since even though I don't plan to do much writing this month, I still like to have an idea of what I'm going to work on next because I do a lot of brainstorming while I fold laundry/vacuum/tackle other mindless household chores, and it's better to have something to focus on. She picked two, and then I picked the one of those that I was most excited to write. <3
Pansy/Luna LMB Prequel: No words yet, currently still in the plotting phase. This is something I've wanted to do for a while because there's not nearly enough femslash in fandom, be the change you want to see and all that, and I really do love Pansy/Luna. I want to set this in the same verse as The Light More Beautiful, but I'd like to make it more of a character study of Pansy, sort of bridging the awful mean girl at Hogwarts who wanted to turn Harry over to Voldemort, to the person she became in LMB, bffs with Harry Potter, friends with Gryffindors, etc etc. I want to look at how she got her life together and her shit sorted out, how she started up her relationship with Luna and fell in love, and how she became besties with the Boy Who Lived. This story will also tangentially tell the story of Harry's injury. There will almost certainly be a chapter titled The Dark Days of Happy Pooter. Estimating somewhere around 40k but this could change drastically when I actually start working.
Stay (aka Don't Think Twice #5): Currently at 2713. This is what all this month's wordcount will probably go into. I don't think 2.5k will be enough to finish it off, but it should make a good dent in it. I'm sort of annoyed with myself that another year has gone by and this series is still hanging over my head. Top priority will be getting it finished, and I'm not going to commit to any other fests until it's done. Estimating 7-8k, definitely under 10k total.
Double Winter Soldier fic: For Eidheann. Currently at 387, and very much still in the plotting phase. Probably will not add much, if any, wordcount to this, but I want to at least get a better idea of where I want the story to go and a loose idea of the what's actually going to happen in it, because right now I have absolutely no clue. Ideally I'd like it to be somewhere around 20-25k? But I don't have enough of a plot right now to make any sort of estimate.
Additional Goals:
Keep up with Erised because I didn't do so well with that the last couple of years. This is such a wonderful fest and the fic and art is always so fantastic. I haven't been reading much HP fic recently, but lately my Drarry feels have been rekindled so I think I'll be able to manage this goal just fine. :D
Get caught up with comment replies which I am still dreadfully behind on. I've got some outstanding comments that are more than a year old at this point, and leaving them unreplied-to makes me feel stressed and like I'm being unappreciative of my readers. For a while I was putting in at least 30 minutes per day on them, but then I stopped while I was working on Erised and now I'm even more behind than I was before. But since I'm not writing that much this month, I'm hoping to start making some good progress again.

Date: 2016-12-01 10:20 pm (UTC)Puh-lease. *rolls eyes* Who wants a Pansy-centric prequel to LMB?! And I just assumed I'd be in menopause before you finished Stay so really you're ahead of the game there. *tries reverse psychology and sarcasm in case that's a better motivator*
