Another New Year

There's always something about January first which feels like turning over a fresh page. And even though I know it's just another day, I do love that magical feeling where it seems like anything is possible, no matter how rough or how much a failure the last year has been. And 2020 has been... a lot. It actually hasn't been that bad for me personally, aside from a lot of stress and anxiety over the state of the world. I miss seeing my family and friends, and being stuck in the house so much has been tough. But we are privileged enough to be able to stay home, and we are financially secure, and we haven't been sick, and I haven't lost anyone I love. By 2020 standards, I feel like that's about as good as I can reasonably expect, and friends, I will gladly take it. I know that so many others have had it so much worse, and I am beyond grateful that other than anxiety and isolation, I haven't been much affected.
I've even managed to get some writing done, which I genuinely wasn't expecting to happen this year.
2020 Fandom Goals
Even though I didn't quite get around to posting my 2020 Goals, in a fit of optimism I did sign up for Get Your Words Out, for the Habit goal of 120 days. Which I failed pretty miserably at, and then got booted from the group for forgetting repeatedly to check in. But I did manage to write a total of 39,915. I had very tentatively and extremely optimistically set a wordcount goal of 50k, and am very pleased by how close I ended up coming to meeting it.
And I have one completed and posted fic, which I am unable to say anything more about as it's still anon.

I didn't get around to setting any 2020 goals, alas, but that also means that I didn't fail any? So, in a way, success??

2021 Fandom Goals
- This year I'd really like to post on DW more often. I plan on doing the Snowflake Challenge, and between that and keeping on top of my WIP posts, will hopefully get me back in the habit of regular posting.
- I'd like to write 100,000 words this year. I signed up for GYWO for the 75k word total because I wanted to push myself a little but the next highest tier--150k--felt like it'd be too high. Signing up for the lower one but aiming a little higher felt like a good compromise.
- I really want to get one novel-length fic completed and posted because it's been far too long since I've posted anything of that length and I've got a bit of a backlog of novel-length ideas and WIPs, and I'd like to start whittling down some of my unposted wordcount.
- ...and that goes hand-in-hand with my goal to sign up for at least one, but no more than two, fest(s). Right now I'm planning on doing
harrydracobang, and that leaves a spot to do a second fest if I happen to see a prompt that grabs me or if I end up pinch hitting for
hd_erised again.
- But regardless of fests, and aside from whatever fic I end up doing for
harrydracobang, I want to post one fic per quarter this year, because there was a year and a half gap between the last two I've done and I really want to post things more regularly. Right now I am planning for these four to be short-ish, which while it won't have much of an impact on bringing down my total WIP wordcount, it should hopefully make a dent (albeit a small one...) in the number of WIPs lurking in the WIP Folder of Doom.
So, there we go. Not much different than my goals of years past, but I'm feeling pretty good about being able to meet them. And while I'm bracing myself for a rough beginning to 2021, I'm hoping that it'll continue to be more of the same for a bit which is tolerable, and that by this time next year it will be better. <3

Date: 2021-01-02 10:29 pm (UTC)Very excited to read more fic from you (and I wonder if I've read your anon one, I'm pretty behind in the fest!). I think I'll likely be signing up for Big Bang too - good luck with your entry!
And always yay to having more people posting on DW frequently - I'm terrible at posting on here regularly but pop by all the time to read entries, so more posting and commenting on entries is something I'd like to do too, as it's definitely my favourite fannish place on the internet.
